Leave Christchurch Friday 5 July in the evening and head to Kennedy lodge. Saturday 6 July – head up the coral track, continue along Rome Ridge until the Avalanche Peak ridge junction. Turn left and head to Avalanche Peak, then onto Mt Bealey and finally heading back down to Arthurs Pass.

Previous experience required: Similar experience on grade 1 and 2 peaks. Knowledge of how to use crampons and an ice axe is essential.

Gear required: Warm clothes, helmet, boots, crampons, ice axe(s) and avalanche gear.

Plan B: Will be reviewed and confirmed depending on the weather and conditions. Options include pushing the trip to Sunday or doing the Torlesse – Castle Hill Peak traverse.
