Description: 2 day field course designed to help members navigate off track using basic navigational skills.
The importance of being able to navigate without technology increases as trips grow in length. Being efficient in the fundamentals of off-track navigation is an essential alpine and tramping skill.
The course will introduce a detailed understanding of 1:50,000 topo maps, the use of compass and altimeters, and identifying logical routes. Includes night-time navigation and a camp below the snow line.
Pre-requisites: Good fitness level, multi-day backcountry tramping experience
Venue: Arthur’s Pass
Accommodation: Saturday night will be tent camping or in a backcountry hut in the mountains
Cost: $250 per person covers instruction costs
Date: August 28-29. Meet at Castle Hill village toilets 1pm Saturday; finishes ~1pm Sunday
