Erik Bradshaw & Mountain Turks Film

Erik Bradshaw is coming to Christchurch to share his documentary Mountain TurksWe are excited to be showing the film (40min long), followed by some words from Erik on his current hut projects.Mountain Turks is the story of Erik Bradshaw, an avid mountaineer who turned his crazy idea of building backcountry huts out of water tanks into New Zealand’s first ski traverse, and in the process built a thriving alpine community. The film is a powerful testament to the transformative power of community, the limitless potential of the human spirit, and the enduring spirit of New Zealand’s mountaineering community.NZMFF 2023Erik had a simple but brilliant idea to convert a large plastic water tank into a four-bunk hut, which he called a Turk, and have it choppered into the back country. It was a crazy idea that was initially met with a lot of scepticism, but ever an optimist and a boundary pusher, he persevered. He established the Mountain Turk Club and found a community of people keen to help out and bring his vision to life. And what developed is an epic, five-hut ski trail from Coronet Peak to Treble Cone ski fields called the Mahu Whenua Traverse.RNZ 2023
