Grade: 2+ , but 3 long days.
Suitable for upper intermediate or intermediate but exceptionally fit climbers.
Experience: A mountaineering course and fitness to walk 15 hrs with a heavy pack in mountainous terrain for 3 consecutive days. , Also familiarity with rock climbing grade 15 at least or previous mountaineering at grade 2.
Departing Christchurch about midnight on Friday, we go to AP and up Rollestion via the Rome Ridge maybe with a 2+ variant and summit Main Peak. We downclimb to Waimak Falls hut and sleep there. Next day, leaving some gear behind we then do Carrington Peak and spend a second night at the hut. Sunday walk out via Mt Philistine.
Equipment: Avo gear, 2 axes, rigid boots, crampons, sleeping bag, headlamp and helmetstove and food for 3 days.
Plan B: The YMCA?
