About the CMC Expedition Fund
The Canterbury Mountaineering Club would like to support members to undertake mountaineering expeditions in New Zealand and overseas and is proud to announce the new CMC Expedition fund.
This fund will run from May 2023 and each year the fund will provide the winning application with $1000 in funding for a mountaineering expedition.
Applying for a Grant
Please download the CMC Expedition Fund Application form and email to [email protected].
The Expedition Fund Committee considers applications once per year. Applications open March 1st must be submitted by June 30th.
Applications received outside these times will not be considered. Grants cannot be made to expeditions that have already left the country.
Applications will be considered by the CMC committee and the winning application will be announced by July 31st.
Eligibility
The Fund supports expeditions in both New Zealand and overseas.
The expedition must involve at least one of the following activities:
- Mountaineering
- Skiing
- Ice/mixed climbing
- Alpine rock climbing, including big wall climbing, but only in remote/alpine regions.
The grant will be awarded each year based on individual merit of the application.
Applicants must be a current CMC member to apply. Not all expedition members need to be CMC members.
Conditions
Agreement to supply an article with photographs for the next edition of the CMC Mountaineer annual journal, and a short summary for the club website and CMC news.
Agreement to give a talk at a CMC club night (every 3rd Thursday of the month).
Agreement to acknowledge the CMC Expedition Fund in articles and talks.
Researching Expedition Objectives
The CMC website hosts all previous CMC Mountaineer journals since 1932 which can provide inspiration for future expeditions.

Come talk to a CMC committee member at one of the CMC club nights to ask for ideas about an expedition you are planning, and someone will put you in contact with the right person who has knowledge for that region.
Donate to the fund
The CMC Expedition Fund is financed directly from donations from Members and not from core subscriptions. When paying their subscription Members can make donations to the Fund.
