Dificulty: This is a trans-alpine tramp suitable for fit trampers or climbers who can use crampons and iceaxe’s and are comfortable scrambling over moraine.
The trip has fantastic scenery of Aoraki/ Mt Cook National Park including the famous Caroline face of Aoraki/ Mt cook.
We are going E-W and camping half way.
Equipment: Bring hemet, crampons, hiking boots and one axe.
Moderate pace.
Depart Friday night to Mt Cook. Hike from Tasman Lake carpark to shortcut below Caroline Hut. Then up and over pass, camping on W side near water.
10 hrs first day, about 4 hrs second with some bush bashing, walking on snow and ice and minor rock scrambling
