Intro: Want to climb a 3000m peak, cross a glacier, walk through fields and forests and climb up rock and snow all while sleeping in comfy huts? Well, this might be the right trip for you!
Tititea / Mt Aspiring, known as the ‘Matterhorn of New Zealand’, is the only 3000m peak that is outside Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park. The plan will be to climb the North West Ridge (Grade 2) starting from Colin Todd hut.
Leader: Yif Swery [[email protected]] or find me on social media
Date: Friday 25th -> Monday 28th Oct (Labour Weekend)
Itinerary: Friday 25th: Take the day off work, leave Christchurch in the morning and drive down to Raspberry Flat car park (approx 7 hour drive). From there we will Walk into Aspiring hut (approx 2hours) and sleep there in the brand new hut for the night.
Saturday 26th: Leave Aspiring hut early for the long approach day to Colin Todd hut. Expected to be approx 10 hour day walking/scrambling and even crossing the bonar galcier, all while carrying your heavy pack with gear.
Sunday 27th: Leave Colin Todd hut following the North West ridge to the summit of Mt Aspiring (exact NW variation to be determined based on condition as a group) and return back to Colin Todd hut. This in theory should be another 10 hour day or so.
Monday 28th: Depart Colin Todd hut early and do the full walkout back to Raspbery Flat Car park (approx 10 hours). Drive back to Christchurch. Expecated arrival back in Christchurch would be in theory very late at night (around midnight)
Party Size: Ideally looking for 3 or 4 people to join the group (anything more will need an additional Team leader to help with any rope work along the way)
Previous experience required:
Good physical fitness
Familiarity with glacier travel and confident snow travel (use of crampons and an ice axe)
Rope work skills (Rappelling of anchors etc…)
Gear Required:
Halmet
Ridged Boots
Crampons & Ice Axe
Harness and rappelling device (ATC/Figure 8)
Overnight Sleeping Gear and Food/Stove

Plan B: Maybe Remarkables GT or something small in the Cook region in case the weather not ideal in Aspiring Park
