This will be a W-E crossing.
There are many conflicting tales about what route is viable and this story changes all the time.Leave Christchurch 7am Saturday head to Wyn Irwin, then hike 8hrs to the Playing Fields and bivvy there.
Up and over the pass at dawn and on to Kaitaiki Peak then down to Ball Shelter and Tasman Carpark.
If we don’t have two cars then we may plant a bicycle there to get the last 10k back to Wyn Irwin.
There will be difficult morraines and some snow/ice.
Helmets essential, crampons, one axe, mountain boots, approach shoes, harness and basic rope skills and a PLB.
Bring food for two days and some extra water bottles.Someone is going to have to carry the poo pot and I bags not me.
