Intro: A social trip for experienced climbers into the impressive Empress Hut. This is a “meet” rather than a “trip”, so we will share the approach to the hut, share beta and thoughts about weather & conditions etc, but we will be climbing independently on different mountains. Sign up with a climbing partner or two, pick your objective and come along for a great social weekend up the Hooker!

Itinerary: The general idea will be head down Friday evening, stay in Wyn Irwin and then head off up the Hooker Saturday through to Monday. We can arrange car sharing between us from ChCh. There is no specific climbing objective for this trip – that can be up for you and your partner(s) to discuss!
Previous experience required: Confidence using ice axe and crampons, avalanche awareness, navigation, etc. However, there are options to suit everybody’s experience level.
Gear required: Avalanche gear, ice axe, crampons, crevasse rescue gear, climbing gear, etc
Plan B: Postpone to a different weekend.
