This is a trip suitable for beginners who can get time off, but the approach is longish and you must be fit. Earnslaw is a 3000m, dramatic looking mountain.

Plan:
Very early Sat morning depart ChCh for Glenorchy 6.5hr drive. Then 1.5 hrs drive to Muddy Creek car park. We then walk 1.5 hrs and ascend 500m to Kea Basin Bivvy Rock where we biv.

Sun if feeling strong we cross the Birley Glacier on crampons to Wright Col another 600m elevation. We then push to East Peak 500m more basic rock scrambling and back to Kea basin.

If feeling weak or weather doubtful we go to Esquilant Bivvy hut. Mon back to Glenorchy and drive home.

Plan B: River walk?

Remember, as with all with CMC trips – leaders are not guides, you are responsible for your own safety, you must be confident that your own capability and experieince is sufficent for the trip – if you have questions or concerns its always better to ask.
