Have you just finished an intro to snow course and frothing to use what you learnt? Have you spent the whole off season meticulously reading Mountaineering Freedom of the Hills and itching to see if the real world is just like the books? If you said yes to either or both of those, do I have the trip for you. This is a beginner’s trip up Mt Cloudsley Via Long Spur: A Grade 1 peak.

Date: Saturday August 2
Itinerary: Meet up for carpooling in the early morning, travel to Castle Hill Village. Go up Mt Cloudsley via Long Spur
Previous experience required: Know how to use crampons and ice axes. Fitness to walk on steep terrain for around 6 hours (including descent)
Gear required: Helmet, ice axe, crampons fitted to appropriate footwear, waterproof clothing, warm clothing, sunnies, avalanche gear (shovel, probe, transciever) and gloves.
Desirable: PLB, first aid kit
Plan B: Try again August 3 or another weekend
