A climb of the classic Philistine – Rolleston Traverse at Arthur’s Pass. The trip is being led by Ben Ellis. The general plan is:

  • Drive up to Kennedy Lodge on Friday night (8 April) arriving by
  • An early alpine start on Saturday 9 April.
  • Back to Christchurch on Saturday night

This is a long day out, and you’ll need to be comfortable scrambling over exposed terrain. In summer the route gets grade 2, there is little snow present currently on the route. We’ll start up Mt Philistine via the Warnocks Bluff Route, carry along the ridge towards Mt Rolleston High Peak. We’ll downclimb some exposed ground towards Middle Peak and sidle around to Low Peak of Mt Rolleston, then descend the Otira Slide via Goldney Ridge down into the Otira Valley and walk out to the car.

Maximum 8 people.
