Itinerary: Hike from West Coast up to Welcome Flat. Camp or hut the night there. Next day follow the Bluewater route up to Welcome Saddle and bivvy there. Third day summit via ridge avoiding crevasses and return with soak in hot pools. It might take 5 days but could be done in 3 for a very fit party.
Equipment: This is an MC2+. Two axes preferred and rigid boots with crampons and approach shoes. Avo gear, stove, food for 5 days. Sleeping bag, mat, bivvy bag or tent. Harness. Avo gear.
Party size: There has been a lot of interest already. 4 confirmed. We can consider a larger party but I will need deputy trip leaders to volunteer and lead roped teams.
Note I am planning a second more technical trip in Feb on this mountain TBC.
Skills: Crevasse rescue and glacier travel.
Plan B: Copland Track?
Remember, as with all with CMC trips – leaders are not guides, you are responsible for your own safety, you must be confident that your own capability and experieince is sufficent for the trip – if you have questions or concerns its always better to ask.
