Description: This course is a 2-day introduction to the equipment and systems that can be used to problem solve vertical problems in the alpine, from bluff abseiling and pitching to lightweight rope techniques designed to keep moving and travel efficient. These techniques can be transferred to skiing and fast & light missions.

Pre-requisites: You must have experience lead climbing, belaying and rappelling. Some previous experience with using trad climbing equipment is also required along with a reasonable level of fitness and basic snowcraft skills. Technical climbing proficiency is not expected.

Venue: Arthurs Pass – Temple Basin, Otira Valley or similar. If conditions in Arthur’s Pass are unsuitable, the course may be moved to Christchurch’s port hills.

Accommodation: Kennedy Lodge, Arthurs Pass. BYO food and drink.
